Obituary of Duane J. Batista
Duane J. Batista, 46 SALEM – Duane J. Batista, 46, beloved husband of Kelly (Bergeron) Batista of Salem, passed away unexpectedly after a heart attack at his home on Tuesday May 31, 2016. Born in Stamford, CT, he was the son of Stephen and Ellen (Donahue) Batista of Greenville, SC. He grew up in Beverly where he attended schools, and graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School, Class of 1988. He studied and earned a degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Computer Science. Mr. Batista worked in Sales and Marketing with Verizon, and focused on Business-to-Business projects and corporate systems. Duane was athletic and enjoyed all sports. He played baseball and soccer at Bishop Fenwick. He also played golf at Salem Municipal, coached his sons in baseball, and enjoyed watching his children play hockey and other activities. A creative person, he was also a gifted artist and talented at painting, and musically inclined he played guitar. He had a gift for connecting and speaking to people, so loved social times at Pickering Wharf or with friends and family at a home gathering. He mostly cherished his greatest passion, that of being a “Dad’, loving his family and his pet dog pugle Maggie. He is survived by his wife Kelly (Bergeron) Batista of Salem, with whom he shared 25 years of marriage; two sons and a daughter, Christopher Batista of Colorado, Alicia Batista and Jacob Batista both of Salem; his parents Stephen and Ellen Batista of SC; a sister Nicole & Steven Goodell of Greenville, SC; two nieces and a nephew, his mother and father-in-law Richard J. & Janice C. Bergeron of Salem, a brother-in-law Richard M. Bergeron of Salem. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a Funeral Mass on Friday June 3, 2016 at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Ste Ann’s Church, Salem, cremation will follow. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Salem High School Athletic Department, 77 Wilson St., Salem, MA 01970. Please
