Obituary of William M. "Bill" Hallinan

William M. (Bill) Hallinan passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Georgia on April 24, 2016. He joined the love of his life, the late Mary Joan (Smith) Hallinan at the 19th Hole in Heaven. Born in Peabody on March 23, 1932 to Thomas and Louisa (Kay) Hallinan, he graduated from Peabody High School in 1949, and upon graduation served in the United States Navy as radar man on the USS Jarvis during the Korean War. Bill was a quiet, humble, hardworking, intelligent man who loved his family and friends fiercely. He was always there to lend a hand wherever needed and would willingly give the shirt off of his back. He had a passion for sports and was especially proud of his children and grandchildren’s athletic accomplishments. He served the city of Peabody as coach and Board member of both youth football and little league baseball in the 60’s and 70’s. He was a huge proponent of The Meadow golf course and upon retirement at age 67 became one of its first grounds crew employees. Bill is survived by his five children and their spouses; William Hallinan Jr., Thomas and Gale Hallinan, Annie and Artie Jean, Susan and Anthony Mineo and Jeannie Hallinan and her fiance Paul Johnson, his grandchildren; Amy, Rori, Stephanie, John, Lindsey, Nick, Sean, Bryan, Erin, Nicholas, Anthony and Matthew, his great-grandchildren, Tyler, Emily, Jack and Coco, his brother and sister-in-law; Thomas and Dorothy Hallinan, his brother and sisters in-law; Robert and JoAnn Smith and Mary Smith, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Mary Joan, his daughter-in-law Mary Anne Hallinan, his grandson; Alec Mineo, his parents; Thomas and Louisa Hallinan, his mother and father in-law; George and Ruth Smith, his siblings and their spouses; James and Dorothy Hallinan and Jane and Walter Krause, his brothers and sisters in-law; George and Caroline Smith, Ruth and Joseph Doucette, Ralph and Francine Smith, Raymond Smith and Carol and Henry Eagar. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 5:00 until 6:30 PM with a memorial service at 6:30 PM at the Conway, Cahill, Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Burial will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 9:30 AM at the family lot in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
