Obituary of Allison Stewart "Babe" Chase

Allison Stewart “Babe” Chase, 94, of Peabody, the devoted husband of 71 years to the late Louise (Bowden) Chase who passed away on June 2, 2016, died peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2016 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a brief illness. He was born in Peabody, the son of the late Harvey and Elizabeth (Mitchell) Chase and was a lifelong resident of Peabody. He was a graduate of the Kiley Brothers Memorial School and the Essex Agricultural School in Danvers in 1941 where he played football. He then entered the US Army serving as a veteran of WW II and had been a training commander for two years and then saw service in Germany, France and Italy attaining the rank of Corporal. Following his discharge, he was first employed at the Donnell and Mudge Leather Co. in Salem and later at the Norelco Lighting Company in Lynn. Babe continued working after his retirement at Hannaford’s Food mart in West Peabody with his wife until the age of 80. He enjoyed working in his flower garden, watching his beloved Red Sox and New England Patriots games on TV and being with his family and friends. He was a member of the Amity Lodge of Mason in Danvers and was also became a member of the Shrine in the Aides Division. Babe loved to Bowl, traveling cross country and the world with the Shriners in the Aides division and going to Foxwoods. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered. He is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Chase) Kucker of Peabody, a son and daughter-in-law, Robert A. and Dorothea Chase of Chelmsford, his grandchildren Jennifer (Kucker) Benoit and Todd Chase, his great grandchildren Tyler and Brianna Benoit and Thomas Chase, his many nieces and nephews, Janet and Peter Sakelakos, Gayle Negroni, Jimmy and Marion White, his godson Bruce and his wife Denise Bowden, Judy Dugar, Donald and Mary Risteen, Dotty Klocker, Janice Tipert, Margie Shanoski, Kenny and Dottie Heckbert, Bruce and Lynn Heckbert, Carol and Paul Roach. He was predeceased by his two siblings, Mildred White and Harvey Chase and his grandson Korey Kucker. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 1:00 PM at the West Congregational Church, Johnson St., West Peabody. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, West Peabody.
