Obituary of Manuel do Amaral

Manuel do Amaral,89, of Salem, entered into eternal rest early Tuesday morning at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Maria L. (Silva) Amaral. Manuel was born in Faial, Azores, Portugal, on May 5, 1927, son of the late Luis Amaral & Maria dos Neves. He was raised and educated in Portugal, where he also became a man of many talents. As a child, he made gun powder, and he also went on to teach himself many other talents such as carpentry and electrical work. He became a career shoemaker prior to moving to the United States in 1971, followed by his family in 1973. Prior to his retirement, he worked on the production line of GTE Sylvania for 7 ½ years. He was a member of the Portuguese Continental Union and Our Lady of Fatima Church, in Peabody. He will be forever remembered as a man of simplicity and if there was something he couldn’t buy, he’d build it. Besides his loving wife of 55 years, he is survived by a son & his wife, Carlos & Mona Amaral of Salem; a daughter & her husband, Maria da Luz & Helder Quadros of Middleton; his grandchildren, Ryan Quadros & his wife Nicole, Dustin Quardros, and Brandon Quadros; his great-grandchildren, Brayden & Elle Quadros, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. His was predeceased by his siblings, Jose Amaral, Luis Amaral, & Maria Melo, A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 30, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on Friday, July 1, at 8:00 AM at the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody at 9A.M. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
