Obituary of Florence (Mavraides) Maistrellis

Florence (Mavraides) Maistrellis of Peabody passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers with her family at her side. She was the wife of the late Charles “Boobie" Maistrellis with whom she spent 50 years of marriage. Born in Ipswich, she was the daughter of Anthony and Venetta (Pelekasis) Mavraides. Florence was raised in Ipswich and was a member of Ipswich High School’s Class of 1943. After marriage, she and Boobie raised their family in Peabody and were members of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church. Florence was a very dedicated employee of GTE Sylvania in Salem and Danvers. She retired from her secretarial career in 1989 and later enjoyed attending the gatherings of the GTE Sylvania Quarter Century Club. Summer was always her favorite season as she loved long sunny days at the beach. Her happiest times were spent on Crane Beach with family and friends of Ipswich. In 1981, she became a Yiayia and was very involved in the lives of each of her 6 grandchildren. For many years, the family would gather at her home every Thursday night to enjoy a delicious Greek dinner. Florence spent the last 6 months of her life as a resident of Sunrise of Gardner Park where she enjoyed watching 2 episodes of the Judge Judy Show each day. The family is grateful for the level of care and compassion given by the wonderful staff of Sunrise. Florence is survived by her children and their spouses, Valerie and Steven Molk, Tony and Paula Maistrellis, and Paula and Craig Vadala, all of Peabody; her grandchildren, Matthew Molk and his wife Serena, Bryan Molk and his wife Giselle, Eleni Maistrellis, Charlie Maistrellis, Michael Vadala, and Dayna Vadala; her great-grandsons, Theo Molk and Julian Molk; and her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Florence was predeceased by her siblings, Teddy, Jim, Mary, and her identical twin sister Viola Mavraides. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 13th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn Street, Peabody. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home at 9 a.m. on Thursday July 14th followed by her service at 10 a.m. at St. Vasilios Geek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody.
