Obituary of Kenneth J. Roy

p PLEASE NOTICE CHANGE OF DATE AND TIMES Kenneth J. Roy, 80, of Beverly, MA, died peacefully on July 19, 2016 at his residence with his family at his side. He was born in Newark, New Jersey on November 1, 1935, the son of the late James K. and Maude (Hopkin) Roy and was raised in Sherrill, New York. He was a graduate of of MIT in Cambridge with a degree in Engineering. He later received his Masters degrees from Marquette University and the University of California at San Jose. He was a satellite systems engineer and eventually became lead designer for the USAF-16 self guided landing systems, which was instrumental in the advancement and commercialization of GPS technology. Ken lived in Peabody MA and later moved to Redondo Beach, California. When his sons needed him most, he moved back to Massachusetts where he resided in Weymouth, Lexington, Chelmsford and eventually settled in Beverly for the past 10 years. He loved listening to his music and cracking jokes and will be sorely missed. He was affectionately known as “chug-a-lug” Roy with his college peers and always enjoyed being in conversation with all who came to know him. He is survived by his three sons, Andrew Roy and his wife Laura of Bedford, MA, James Roy and his companion, Karyn Nicholson of Newburyport, MA, and Matt Roy and his wife Laura of Hampstead, NH; his cherished grandchildren, Dylan, Meredith, McKenzie, Kelsey,Fallon and Kendall Roy, his companion, Stephane McGrail of Northboro, and a host of friends. He was the former husband of the late Diane (Herron) Roy whom he loved dearly. A visitation will be held on Sunday July 24, 2016 from 12 Noon until 2:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. All are welcomed.
