Obituary of Theresa A. (Burkinshaw) Martins

Theresa A (Burkinshaw) Martins, 86, of Peabody, died peacefully on Wednesday, July20, 2016 at the NSMC Salem Hospital. She was the devoted wife of Americo “Marco” Martins with whom she shared 63 years of marriage. She was born in Salem, MA on September 23, 1929, the daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude (Coffin) Burkinshaw and was raised there and had resided in Peabody most of her life. She had worked in the school cafeteria with the City of Peabody spending most of her time at South Memorial School for 22 years prior to her retirement. She was an avid Red Sox fan and loved taking trips with her family to Disney World. She had been a member of the Portuguese American War Vets Post 1 of Peabody. Theresa enjoyed going on Yard Sales trying to find some special treasures and was devoted to her family. She is survived by her husband, Marco, her children, Sandra and her husband Anthony Pascarella of Salem, MA and Mark Martins and his partner Geof Brown of Chester, VT, her grandson Andrew Pascarella and his girl friend Stephanie Ideman of Peabody, her siblings, Kenneth Burkinshaw and his wife Olive of Peabody, Eleanor Ouellette of Salem and Maryann and her husband Robert D’ambrosio of North Reading, a brother-in-law, Charles Martins of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Frances Maurice, Evelyn Lobao, Margaret Burkinshaw and Edward Burkinshaw. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 24, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
