Obituary of John Mello

John Mello, 88, of Peabody, died early Saturday, July 23, 2016, at the Beverly Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Doris (Ouellette) Mello and the late Dorothy (Mooney) (Resse) Mello. He was born in Peabody, MA on August 28, 1927, the son of the late Manuel and Antonia Mello and had resided in Peabody all his life. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed in the leather industry working at Hathorne Leather Co. in Salem, as well as Eagle Can, in Peabody. He also worked at Morton-Thiokol Co., in Danvers for 10 years prior to his retirement. John was a skilled craftsman and enjoyed making wooden boats in bottles. He also enjoyed gardening around his house raising vegetables and flowers. He loved to cook and especially enjoyed making soups and baking pies. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John C. and Charlene Mello of Danvers, a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Russell Talkington of Peabody, his cherished grandchildren, Brad and Matthew Talkington of Peabody, a brother George Mello of Salem and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Emma Silva, Mildred Blanchette, Jeanette Monte, Florence Sousa and William Mello. A Visitation will be held on Friday, July 29, 2016 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church Peabody at 12:00 Noon.. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, in Salem. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Meals on Wheels program c/o North Shore Elder Services, 300 Rosewood Dr., # 200, Danvers, MA 01923 in his memory.
