Obituary of Miriam (Barr) Chase

Miriam B. (Barr) Chase, 94, of Peabody died peacefully Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers with her family by her side. She was the devoted wife of 68 years to the late John R. Chase who died in 2011. She was born in Peabody, MA on August 15, 1921, the daughter of the late Ralph and Helen (Putney) Barr and had resided in Peabody and Lynnfield most of her life. Miriam was employed in the claims Department at the American Mutual Life INS Company in Wakefield, MA for 20 years prior to her retirement. She loved to knit, and walk the beaches on the North Shore and also sailing with her husband. A Registered dietician, she enjoyed entertaining family and friends with her recipes and was an ardent homemaker. Miriam was a longtime member of the Lynnfield Centre Congregational Church and served on many committees there. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Jacqueline and her husband Dennis Drinkwater of Magnolia, and Janet M. Fortunato of Beverly, her cherished grandchildren, Coreen Fortunato of Boston, Dean Drinkwater and Nicole Lewis both of Ipswich and Tracy Jingle of Haverhill, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Helen Smith and Bruce Barr. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Lynnfield Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer St., Lynnfield at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, West Peabody.
