Obituary of Maria de Lourdes Bettencourt

Maria de Lourdes Bettencourt, 82, of Peabody, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016. Maria was born on February 15, 1934 in Freguesia de Luz, Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, the daughter of the late Manuel Antonio and Mary Frances (Costa) Ferreira. She was raised and educated in Portugal and moved to the United States with her husband and children in 1968. Prior to her retirement, she worked 20+ years as an Assembler for Sylvania. Maria was also a longtime, faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody. She had many interests which included crocheting, reading, cooking a variety of Portuguese dishes and tending to her vegetable garden. Maria's most treasured accomplishment was motherhood. Maria was a quiet, thoughtful, kind-hearted, unassuming woman, with a deep love for her family. She enriched her children and grandchildren’s lives with her kindness, generosity, understanding, wisdom and above all else, her unconditional love. Maria will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her especially her family, including her children, Natalio & his wife Deliela Bettencourt of Pawcatuck, CT, Vinicio Bettencourt of Peabody, Maria D. Bettencourt of Peabody, Elza & her husband Michael Leo of Amesbury, MA, and Linda Bettencourt of San Francisco, CA; her grandchildren Tessianna, Natalin, and Patrick Bettencourt of Pawcatuck, CT. She was predeceased by her husband Manuel Bettencourt and a daughter, Ana Maria Bettencourt. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 18, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Friday, August 19, at 8:00 AM at the Funeral Home followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
