Obituary of Maria Borba dos Santos Silva

Maria B. Silva, 93, of Peabody, wife of the late Jose Silva, died peacefully on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the North Shore Medical Center in Salem with her family by her side. She was born in Luz, Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on January 6, 1923, the daughter of the late Manuel and Rosa Purficacao (Bettencourt) Dos Santos Bettencourt and was raised and resided there before moving to Lowell, MA in 1977. She had resided in Peabody for the past 38 years. Maria had been employed at the Perry Shoe Company in Lowell and later at the Salem Shoe Company in Salem. She then worked at the Fish Products Company in Danvers prior to her retirement. She had been a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church Peabody and was a member of the Holy Ghost Society. Maria was very skilled with her hands and enjoyed crocheting tablecloths and doilies and giving them to her family. She is survived by her two sons and daughters – in-law, Manuel B. and Avalina Silva of Peabody and Jose S.and Maria Leontina Silva of Lowell, MA, three daughters and sons-in-law, Maria and Manuel Tomas and Maria Conceicao and Joao Brazil all of Lowell, MA and Marcelina B. and David Quadros of Providence, R.I., nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Antonio Bettencourt, Rosa dos Santos, Bernardina Mendonca and Conceicao Augusto. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016 from 4:00 Until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
