Obituary of Louis A. "Lou" Champigny

Louis A. Lou Champigny 86 years, of Peabody, husband of late Mary A. (McGrath) Champigny with whom he had shared 63 years of marriage, died Wednesday afternoon at the Union Hospital in Lynn after a brief illness. Mr. Champigny was born August 15, 1919 in Lynn son of the late Alfred and Maria (Bourgeois) Champigny. He was raised in Lynn, graduated from Lynn Classical High School. During WW II he served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a storekeeper 3rd Class and was honorably discharged on October 27, 1944. He moved to Peabody in 1950. Mr. Champigny was employed as an assembler at the General Electric Bldg. 29 in Lynn for 40 years until his retirement in 1980. He devoted his whole life to his family and was so proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Everyone in his neighborhood knew whom to call when they needed a hand. He will be remembered for his flower gardens and tomatoes and he also enjoyed cooking. Mr. Champigny was a very active parishioner at St. Ann’ s Parish in Peabody, traveled extensively throughout the world and volunteered for many years at Peabody Council on Aging, Haven from Hunger in Peabody, Union Hospital and My Brother’ s Table in Lynn. He is survived by 4 sons and their wives, Paul and Gail Champigny, James and Elyse Champigny all of Peabody, Brian and Debbie Champigny of Merrimack NH, Garry and Barbara Champigny of Oregon City OR; 8 grandchildren, Wendy Champigny of Georgetown, David Champigny of Acton, Jennifer Given of Manchester NH, Kevin Champigny of Decatur GA, Vanessa Champigny of Tampa FL, Jonathan Champigny of Peabody, Jason and Andrew Champigny of Rhododendron OR; 4 great grandchildren, Michael, Julie and Connor Champigny and Xavier Given; a brother, Roland Champigny of Lynn; a sister, Claire Colantuno of Marblehead; a former daughter-in-law, Debbie Champigny of Rhododendron OR, many nieces and nephews. His siblings Albert and Arthur Champigny, Eva Daigle and Rhea Lamoureux predeceased him. His funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St. location Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Ann’ s Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
