Obituary of Valentim L Vasconcelos

Valentim L. Vasconcelos, 73, beloved husband of Maria Teresina (Bettencourt) Vasconcelos, passed away on Saturday, September 17th at Salem Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal he is the son of the late Francisco and Maria de Jesus (Lobao) Vasconcelos. Mr. Vasconcelos grew up in Graciosa and served in the Portuguese Air Force. He married his wife Maria on May 11, 1968 and moved to the United States, settling in Peabody. He worked as a machinist for New England Carbide Company for 30 years, until his retirement in 2003. Mr. Vasconcelos was a member Our Lady of Help and Our Lady of Fatima Church. He enjoyed being in his garden, making his own wine and tinkering in his workshops. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and will truly be missed. In addition to his wife of 48 years, Maria, he is survived by two sons: Frank Vasconcelos and his wife Sonia of Swampscott and Danny Vasconcelos and his wife Lisa of Peabody; three brothers: Juventino, Celestino, and Arlindo Vasconcelos; two sisters: Almerinda Morais and Maria Gil; and two beloved granddaughters: Madalena and Vitoria Vasconcelos and predeceased by his brother, Florentino Vasconcelos and two sisters. His funeral will be held on Friday at 10:00 A.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Walsh Ave, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, North Street, Salem.
