Obituary of Raymond Luz
Raymond Luz, 83 PEABODY – Raymond Luz, 83, beloved husband of Shirley (Couillard) (Tardiff) Luz of Peabody, died peacefully at his home on Friday evening September 23, 2016, while in the comforting presence of his family who were also present honoring his birthday. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Freitas) Luz. He grew up in and was a lifelong resident of the city, and graduated from Peabody High School. Mr. Luz enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was a Tank Operator. He worked in construction with his father, and later as a Truck Driver in the Teamsters Union, Local 25 of Boston for many years. Ray enjoyed following Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox and Patriots. He was most passionate about spending time with his grandchildren and family. “Grampy” always enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s various sporting events. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Luz of Peabody, with whom he shared 33 years of marriage; their children, Tom & Cathy Tardiff, Kathleen & Thomas Southern, and Karen & John O’Rourke all of Peabody; nine grandchildren, Nicole Mailo & her husband Jason, Joey Tardiff, Ricky Tardiff, Stacie Southern, Sydney Southern, Tommy Southern, Jake O’Rourke, Keri O’Rourke, and Katie O’Rourke; one great-grandson Cameron Mailo; a sister Josephine “Josie” Gambarone of NJ; a brother Richard Luz of NJ, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by brothers Robert, Leo, Anthony, Rudolph and Joseph Luz, and sisters Mary Champlain, Aldora Spence, Eliza Mattos, and Amelia Watt. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Thursday at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 A.M. in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Cremation will follow the Mass. Memorial donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.
