Obituary of Alice D. (Lojko) Micalchuck

Alice D. (Lojko) Micalchuck, 101 PEABODY – Alice D. (Lojko) Micalchuck, 101, beloved wife of the late Funeral Director Peter Micalchuck, died peacefully on Sunday September 25, 2016 at the Care One Nursing Care Facility in Peabody. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Lojkowna) Lojko, she grew up there and attended Salem schools. Mrs. Micalchuck assisted her husband Peter when they opened and operated the Central Funeral Home in Peabody for over 45 years until he died in 1983, and the business closed within a few years later. Alice was involved with several community organizations. She was a member of the 4 H Club, called “The Sewing Box” teaching young ladies about sewing and stitching skills. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Church in Peabody until its closing where she was a Past Vice President of the Ladies Guild, and the Holy Rosary Society among other parish activities; the Daughters of St. Joseph’s, and the Peabody Golden Agers. She was proud of her Polish heritage and cooking dishes, and was famous for her whoopie pies and crunchy chocolate chip cookies. She loved social gatherings, spending time with family and hearing about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s accomplishments, was an avid fan of golf and the Red Sox, and doing crossword puzzles and word search to keep her mind sharp. Her family is grateful for the love and care shown by the staff at Care One as they encouraged her to stay active with crafts and Bingo games. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Mathews & her husband Alfred “Dick” Mathews; four grandchildren Gary & Karen Mathews of Peabody, Todd & Maria Mathews of Winthrop, Davic Micalchuck of Virginia Beach, VA, and Sheri & Tyson Erlewine of SC; eight great-grandchildren, Christopher, Alexa, and Olivia Mathews, Nicoletta Mathews, Carson, Brennan, Payton, and Ashton Erlewine; a brother Waldren Lojko of Peabody; a sister-in-law June Lojko of Danvers; a daughter-in-law Rosalie Micalchuck of NJ, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by a son David Micalchuck, and a brother Harry Lojko and a sister Stacia Szymanski. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Thursday September 29, 2016 from 10 – 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:30 AM in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to either Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Davners, MA 01923 or to a charity of one’s choice.
