Obituary of Apostolos "Peter" Viglas

Apostolos “Peter” Viglas, 75, of West Peabody and formerly of Salem, died early Thursday morning surrounded by his family at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Helen (Doudoumi) Viglas with whom he shared over 48 years of marriage. Born in Paravola, Greece, he was the son of the late Andrea and Eleni (Plasteras) Viglas. He was raised and educated in Greece and later immigrated to the United States and settled in Salem where he resided for over 50 years. He has lived in West Peabody for the past 11 years. Peter started Teddy and Peter Hair Salon in Peabody Square with his brother where they owned and operated for 10 years before moving on to the roast beef business. He was the founder of Dina’s Roast Beef originating in Revere and has been in the roast beef business for over 30 years, and has owned several restaurants on the North Shore. Peter was a very special and generous man who loved meeting people at his restaurants and all his family enjoyed his kindness and his genuine personality. Peter was a family man who took great pride in his family and will be dearly missed by all. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dina and Dino Hatzelamprou of West Peabody, his grandson, Theofane Hatzelamprou of West Peabody, his brothers, Teddy and Vasili Viglas, both of Salem, and his sister, Martha Alexopoulos of Salem and is also survived by several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Paul and Angelo Viglas, Toula Polizos, Athena Gytha, and Fotini Mania His funeral will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody followed by his Funeral Service at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM and burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
