Obituary of Antonio J. Carroca
Antonio J. Carroca, 75 of Salem, died Wednesday September 28, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a rare neurodegenerative brain disease. He was the devoted husband of Isaura (Santos) Carroca with whom he shared over 51 years of marriage.
Born in San Miguel, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose and Maria (Couto) Carroca. He immigrated to the United States with his family settling in Salem where he has been a resident for the past 46 years. He had worked in the leather industry in Peabody before his retirement. He loved to garden, making wine, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Isaura, he is survived by his four children, Magarida and her husband John Pereira of Danvers, Maria Connie Carroca and her husband Ralph Poillucci of Salem, Antonio Jr. and his wife Georgeanne Carroca of Lynn and Mariano and his wife Lynne Carroca of Peabody. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Rachel and her husband Hector Medrano, Derek, Matthew, Kimberly, Brianna, Anthony, Jose, Bianca, George, Marisa and two great grandchildren, Andre and James. He also leaves his brothers and sisters-in-law, Mariano and Ana Carroca, John and Julie Carroca, Conceicao Carroca and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Miguel Carroca and Manuel and his wife Maria Carroca.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill- Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Monday at
8:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in Our lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
