Obituary of Ernest E Kendall, Jr

Ernest E. Kendall, Jr., age 90, of Peabody, passed away suddenly on September 13, 2016. Ernie was predeceased by his loving wife, Nikki (Sclavounos) with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. He was born in Winthrop, Massachusetts and graduated from Burlington High School in 1944. Upon graduation, Ernie enlisted in the Army Air Corp where he served as a B-17 Aerial Gunner and a Military Police Supervisor. After WWII, Ernie joined General Electric, then Sylvania as a Mechanical Draftsman/Designer. His innovative, patented lighting designs are still in use at airports and on roadways throughout the US and in major airports around the world. Ernie was also a talented residential and commercial property designer, builder and Realtor, well known throughout the North Shore. Later in his career, he became an Eminent Domain Specialist for the State of Massachusetts and later served as an Assessor for the city of Peabody. Mr. Kendall was a member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church and their Men’s Club. He enjoyed golf, deep-sea fishing, and spending time with family and friends at his vacation home in Ogunquit. He was fortunate to have travelled extensively with his family, sharing many exotic and memorable adventures including visiting his ancestral homes in England and Wales. Ernie’s sense of humor, generosity and love will be greatly missed by his family: his son, Lewis, his daughter, Joan, his surviving sister Joan McDonough of Winchester, Massachusetts, his five grandchildren and six great grandchildren, as well as his many friends and neighbors. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 8:30 am until 10:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 am at St. Vasilio's Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody. Graveside services to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
