Obituary of Evangelos G. Gikas

Evangelos G. Gikas, 83, beloved husband of the late Priscilla (Antonio) Gikas, passed away on Sunday, October 2nd, at his home, surrounded by his family after an extended illness. Born in Piraeus, Greece, he is the son of the late George and Vasiliki (Konaxi) Gikas. Evangelos grew up in Greece and earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He came to the United States in 1952 and married his wife Priscilla on March 18, 1956 and settled and raised their family in Peabody. Evangelos served in the United States Army and was an honorably discharged veteran. Evangelos became naturalized as a U.S. citizen on March 30, 1964. He started his career in mechanical engineering at the Lynn Screw and Machinery Company and then with his brothers and partners, they started their own business, Aster Engineering located in Middleton and Aris Engineering in Haverhill. He was a member of Saint Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, and most of all, loved being with his family. He is survived by three children: George E. Gikas of Peabody, Despina Luis-Rogers and her husband Chris of Peabody and Elizabeth Gikas of Peabody; seven grandchildren: Evangelos and Priscilla Gikas, Evangelos Luis and his wife Huong, Dawn Luis and her husband Ruben Bocchetti, Evangelia Kyrgiafinis and her husband George, George and Evangelos Andrias; four great grandchildren: Vincenzo, Dante and Antonio Bocchetti and Kyra Luis; and sister-in-law: Irene Antonio and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his siblings: John and Achilles Gikas and Maria Karlis. A Funeral Service will be held from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody, on Saturday at 8:30 A.M. to Saint Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos Street, Peabody at 9:30 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
