Obituary of Marie Eleanor (Manning) Evans

Marie Evans, a “repatriated” Salem, MA native and long term resident of Utica and Clinton, NY gently passed away after a brief illness on October 1st, 2016 in Salem, MA. Mrs. Evans had returned a few years ago to Salem to be closer to her family. Mrs. Evans was the daughter or Roger Craig and Marie (Lebel) Manning of Salem MA. She was predeceased by John R. “Goat” Evans Jr., her husband of 53 years and her three brothers, Daniel J. Manning and his wife Anna of New Hartford, NY, Roger C. Manning and his wife Betty of Glens Falls , NY and Donald J. Manning of New Hartford, NY and sister-in-law Phyllis Coloton and her husband Russell. She leaves behind her 5 children and their spouses; Rebecca M. Poltack and husband Stanley of Longmeadow, MA, Elin A. Evans-Simone and her husband Richard of Cambridge, MA , John R “Jack” Evans III and his wife Paula of Shrewsbury ,MA, Jeffrey G. Evans of Vail , CO. and Amy M. Evans of Salem, MA along with 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. While primarily a housewife raising her family, she was employed part time in various positions at St Elizabeth’s Hospital, Slocum-Dickson Clinic and Mohawk Valley Community College. Mrs. Evans who enjoyed time with her friends and family was an avid reader, was very interested in art, home décor and playing bridge. She was an active member of the Oneida County Republican Party and also provided support to other community & church associations and causes. Friends are invited to visit with her family from 5PM – 7PM on Thursday, October 6th at the Eannace Funeral Home, 932 South St in Utica, NY and to join them for Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church 2 Barton Ave, Utica, NY on Friday, October 7th at 11AM. Interment will follow at St Agnes Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Joslin Diabetes Center, Development Office, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215
