Obituary of Elaine Genevieve (Specht) Shashaty
Elaine Genevieve (Specht) Shashaty, 87, of Peabody, died Friday evening at the Kindred Hospital following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late George F. Shashaty.
Born in the Bronx, New York, she was the daughter of the late Siegfried and Elizabeth (Knopp) Specht. She was raised and educated in New York and has been living in Peabody for the past 41 years.
While living in New York, she worked as a buyer for the Sears Roebuck Company during the day and at night would volunteer as a nurse’ s aide for the area hospitals. She also was very active with the PTA in New York, worked the voting both, and was active on the bowling circuit.
In 1965 she moved to Peabody where she continued raising her family and was very active in the community. She worked part time as a cashier at the CVS Pharmacy Kings Plaza in Peabody for over 15 years. She also loved baking, was an avid reader, and frequently dined at the Surf and Turf in Peabody with her many friends. Over the years, she continuously donated blood to the Red Cross and was a member of the eight gallon club.
She was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother who is survived by her children George F. Jr. and his wife Teresa Shashaty of Peabody, Barbara and her husband David Palladino of Peabody and Lynn and her husband Jeff Cody of Bradford, her sister, Dorothy Ostrowski of New Jersey, and her two grandchildren, Nicholas and Alyssa Shashaty.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Adelaide’ s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
