Obituary of Marcelina L ( da Silva) Sale
Marcelina L da Silva Salé, 93, of Peabody, died Sunday morning at the Care One at Peabody Nursing Home, surrounded by her family following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late João Sale.
Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Helena da Silva. She was raised in Portugal and in 1969 she immigrated with her family to the United States and has lived in Peabody for the past 47 years.
Marcelina was employed for over 25 years as a machine operator at Webster’s and later before retiring, she worked for the Pilgrim Nursing Home in the housekeeping department.
She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and served on the church council committee for several years. She was also a member of the Holy Ghost Society, loved playing bingo and cards at the Torigian Senior Center, and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She cherished spending time with her family and sharing in all of their activities. She will be dearly missed by all.
She is survived by her two sons, João Salé of Portugal and Manuel Salé of Everett, MA, her four daughters, Maria Helena Silva of Salem, MA, Margarida Abreu of Florida, Maria José Salé of Rhode Island, and Maria João Hammond of New Orleans, her brother, Cristiano da Silva of Rhode Island, and sister, Eugenia Lima of Peabody, MA. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her eight siblings.
Her funeral will be held on Friday at 8:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Walsh Ave, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
