Obituary of Francis M "Cal" Callanan

Francis M “Cal” Callanan, Sr, 86, of Peabody, died Tuesday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Lauretta (Conley) Callanan. Born in Chelsea, he was the son of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Hazelton) Callanan. He was raised and educated in Everett and was a graduate of Everett High School, class of 1948. He has been a resident of Peabody for the past 55 years. Francis served with United States Navy during the Korean War and then later served with the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard for many years. Following his military service, Francis was employed with the Northeast Quality Products in Newburyport and retired from there in 1988. Upon his retirement, he went back to work as a Fish Department Manager at Hannaford Supermarket for an additional 7 years before he finally retired. Francis was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the AOH Clubs both in Peabody and also enjoyed golfing and bowling and was a long time communicant of St. Adelaide’s Church as well. He is survived by his son, Francis M. Callanan Jr and his wife Heather of Peabody and his two beloved grandchildren, Logan and Rylee Callanan of Peabody, two step grandchildren, Robert and Cody Mason, and a step great granddaughter, Cambree Mason all of Lynn. His Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
