Obituary of Augusta Bernardo
Augusta (Correia) Bernardo, 69, of Peabody, died early Tuesday morning at Blaire House in Tewksbury following a long struggle with Alzheimer’ s disease. She was the loving wife of Antonio Bernardo with whom she shared over 48 years of marriage.
Born on November 13, 1932, in the Tras-Os-Montes region of Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Antonio & Filomania (Alves) Correia. She came to the United States with her husband and three children in 1974 and had settled in Peabody.
She had worked in the leather factories around the North Shore, and later had worked at her son’ s restaurant, The IV Seasons in Lowell.
Besides her loving husband of 48 years, Augusta is survived by her children and their families, including her son Joe & Teresa Bernardo and their sons Mike, David, and Paul, all of Peabody; George & Cathleen Bernardo and their sons Nicholas & Patrick, all of Tewksbury, and Ana & Bill Sweeney and their son Steve Matos, all of Peabody. She also leaves behind 3 sisters, 3 brothers, and extended family in Portugal, as well as the Bernardo Family in Peabody.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Wednesday from 3-7 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
