Obituary of John E. "Jack" Lonergan

John E. “Jack” Lonergan, 76, of Peabody, died Tuesday evening at the Rosewood Nursing Center in Peabody after a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Marion (Loggie) Lonergan. John was born in Somerville, MA, the son of the late John and Ita (Delaney) Lonergan and was raised there and was a graduate of Matigon High School in Cambridge in 1958. He served with the US Army prior to his discharge in 1963. Jack then attended Bentley College receiving a bachelor or arts degree. He started in the commercial real estate with the Wilder-Manley Co. of Boston and served as a vice president. He later started the Lonergan Company specializing in commercial property management and real estate development which he was president prior to his retirement. Jack was an avid golfer and started playing at the Thomson Country Club in North Reading and also resided there for many years. He won many fourball tournaments and always enjoyed the competition and ran a group at Thomson County Club for many years. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially gin and he had a love for numbers both in golf and in card games. He is survived by his dear wife, Marion , his son and daughter-in-law, John and Deborah Lonergan and his cherished granddaughters, Jacqueline and Kaleigh Lonergan all of Peabody, his siblings, Atty. Edward Lonergan and his wife Barbara of Nahant, Kenneth Lonergan of Boston, Ita Marie and Tyler Black of Hollywood, Florid, Suzanne Perry and her husband Richard of Middleton and Ellen Starble of Somerville and many nieces, nephews and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 29, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Assumption Church, Grove St., Lynnfield. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Following the Mass a reception will be held at Spinelli’s Restaurant, 10 Newbury (Route 1 South) on the Peabody /Lynnfield Line.
