Obituary of Francis J. Bootsie Crean

Francis J. Bootsie 81, of Peabody, died early Wednesday morning at the Grosvner Park Nursing Home in Salem following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Dena (Mallas) Crean with whom he shared over 54 years of marriage. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Catherine (Rennick) Crean. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and attended Peabody Public Schools. He was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Army. After the war, he worked for AC Lawrence for over 20 years, and prior to his retirement 15 years ago, he worked for 20 years for the city of Peabody at the Water Department. He also worked at night as a Bartender and Bar Manager at the A.O. H in Peabody for several years. He enjoyed bowling and was in bowling leagues at both Sunnyside in Danvers and Metro Bowl in Peabody. He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching Peabody and Bishop Fenwick High School sports, as well as all of Boston’ s Professional Sports Teams. He was an avid swimmer and enjoyed swimming at Devereuax Beach in Marblehead. He was a devoted father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and besides his loving wife he is survived by two daughters, Catherine and her husband Jonathan Connolly of Peabody and Dorene and her husband Richard Mendes of Middleton, a brother, Richard Crean of Quincy, three sisters, Mary Carney, Catherine Arno, and Barbara Crean, all of Danvers; four grandchildren, Cynthia Repole, Kerri and Jonathan Connolly and Amelia Mendes; two great grandchildren, Aaron and Noah Repole and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Phil and Charles Crean. His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church Street, Peabody, Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Annunciation Cemetery in Danvers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
