Obituary of Irene Frances Twomey

Irene Frances (Skokas) Twomey, 94, of Peabody and formerly of Somerville, died peacefully Wednesday evening surrounded by her family at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Matthew G. Twomey, Sr. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Frances (O’Neil) Skokas. She was raised and educated in Charlestown, later lived in Somerville and has spent the last 10 years living in Peabody. Irene enjoyed spending time reading, playing cards, scrabble and most of all caring for her family. While living at Brooksby Village, she enjoyed praying the rosary. Irene is survived by her two daughters, Frances and her husband Richard Christino of Danvers and Geraldine Twomey and her partner Maureen Doherty of Ipswich, her beloved five grandchildren, James and his wife Maryellen of Hudson, Julie Twomey of Framingham, Sharon and her husband Thomas Robinson of Lynn, Colleen and her husband David Yudichak of Tolland, CT, and Susan Christino Howard and her husband David Howard of Gloucester and is also survived by great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Matthew G. Twomey, Jr and her siblings, Edward O’Neil, Dorothy O’Neil, and Alberta MacDonald. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Adelaide’s Church, Lowell St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Broadway in Malden. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Resident Care Fund, 200 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody, MA 01960.
