Obituary of Odete (Da Rosa) DeAvila

Odete (Da Rosa) DeAvila, 94, of Peabody, died Wednesday evening at the Pilgrim Nursing Home surrounded by her family following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Jose Machado DeAvila. Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Joao Maria and Maria Clara (Dos Reis) Da Rosa. She was raised in Portugal and later immigrated to the United States on April 24, 1973 from Terceira, Azores, Portugal to Peabody where she has lived for the past 43 years. Odete enjoyed her family and watching the younger generation grow. She also loved cooking and knitting as well. She is survived by her four sons, Fernando and his wife Elisabeth Avila, Pedro and is wife Maria DeAvila, and Joey DeAvila, all of Peabody and Jose Alberto DeAvila and his wife of RI, her daughters, Diodete Pimentel of Saugus, Maria Margarida and her husband Luciano of RI, Dora Distefano of Peabody and Maria Fancy and her husband Butch of Peabody, her sister, Maria Santos of Peabody and by 17 grandchildren, 22, great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was predeceased by her siblings, Manuel Maria Da Rosa, Casemiro Rosa, and Ezidra Pires. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 8:30 am until 10:30 am at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Burial will be on St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
