Obituary of Dorothy M. (Coleman) Pierce

Dorothy E. (Coleman) Pierce, 80, of Reading, Ma. And formerly of Salem, Peabody and Concord, NH, died Monday morning at the Winchester Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of Robert F. Pierce with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. She was born in Wolfboro, NH on October 5, 1922, the daughter of the late George J. and C. Dorothy (Hayes) Coleman and was raised in Salem Ma. She was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1941 serving as class secretary and continued that roll throughout the many class reunions. She had been a telephone operator for NE Tel & Tel Co. first in New York City for 3 years and later in Salem Ma for 5 years. She had resided in Concord , NH for 15 years where she was a volunteer at Concord Hospital before moving back to Peabody, Ma. where she helped the Discalced Carmelite Nuns in Peabody. She loved playing Tennis, doing needlepoint, knitting and being with her family. Surviving her besides her husband are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert F. and Susan O’ Brien Pierce Jr. of Beverly, 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Tricia P. and Thomas P. Fitzgerald of Reading, and Dorothy P. and E. Carey O’ Donnell of Haddenfield, N.J., her twin brother and sister-in-law, George J. Bud and Marie Coleman of Marblehead, a sister and brother-in-law, Rosamond Roz and J. Donald Powers of Salem, 3 grandchildren, T. Patrick Fitzgerald Jr. of Reading, Tarin and E. Carey O’ Donnell 111 of Haddenfield, NJ, an Aunt , Mary E. Dolly King of No.Salem, NH and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Michael C. Pierce. Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church, Peabody at 11:00 a.m Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Dorothy M. Pierce Scholarship fund c/o Austin Preparatory School, 101 Willow St., Reading, Ma. 01867 in her memory.
