Obituary of Thomas J. Karavias

Thomas J. Karavias, 72 MANCHESTER – Thomas J. Karavias, 72, died peacefully, yet unexpectedly, on Sunday evening November 13, 2016 at Beverly Hospital, while in the presence of his loved ones. Born in Kalamos, Greece, he was the son of the late John and Georgia (Kominos) Karavias. He grew up in Greece and was with the Merchant Marine there. He came to the United States, settling on the North Shore where he lived for nearly 55 years, and lived in Manchester for the last 45 years. Mr. Karavias had a great skill of cooking. He worked as a Chef with several fine dining establishments around the North Shore, including The Commodore in Beverly, the Daniel Fuller House in Middleton, The Tavern in Gloucester, and The Allenhurst in Peabody. Thomas enjoyed gardening to grow vegetables, discussing politics, and getting outside for walks. He enjoyed living quietly with his family and friends. He is survived by a son, John Karavias of Salem, NH; his companion Diane Beckwith of Lynn; three grandchildren, Alexandra, Samantha, and Olivia Karavias all of Salem, NH; a brother, Nick Karavias of Virginia; two sisters, Chrisostomi Solos of Virginia and Eleni Solos of Greece; a Goddaughter Maria Arnold of North Reading, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Nick Karavias besides his parents. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for his Funeral Service on Friday November 18, 2016 at 10:30 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to either the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970 or to a charity of one’s choice.
