Obituary of Roger P. Gagnon
Roger P. Gagnon, 65 SALEM – Roger P. Gagnon, 65, died peacefully, yet unexpectedly, while in the comforting presence of his family, on Monday November 14, 2016 at the Mass General Hospital due to complications from Congestive Heart Failure after a brief illness. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Roger T. and Marilyn F. (Armstrong) Gagnon. He graduated from Salem High School, and was a lifelong resident of the city He lived many years in the Castle Hill neighborhood. Mr. Gagnon was employed at the Sunshine Laundromat on Boston St., several years with Salem Hospital, and recently was a Security Guard with the City of Salem parking garage. Roger was an extremely friendly person who easily made friends wherever he went. He was a very kind and gentle, as well as generous spirit who was always willing to lend a hand and not ask for anything in return. He enjoyed collecting model fire trucks and fire memorabilia, a longtime member of SPAAMFAA (the Antique Fire Apparatus Club of America), and enjoyed going to the Fireman’s Muster in Wakefield each year. He liked photography, and spending leisurely afternoons at his sister’s home, holidays with family and friends—especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. His greatest joy in life was his three children who he loved dearly, and lived through his most difficult times when his two sons passed away. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him, especially his daughter and sister with whom he was very close. He is survived by a daughter Donna Marie Dyer of Salem; a sister Diane Hammerbeck and her husband Keith, several aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends Don Famico and Noreen Nelson. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by his sons Roger P. Gagnon, Jr. and Shawn M. Gagnon. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Monday from 6 – 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, with a brief Funeral Service at 8 P.M. Cremation will follow. Memorial donations may be made to PAWS, 383 R Lowell St., Suite 5, Wakefield, MA 01880.
