Henry N. Coito, Peabody Police Sergeant, Ret.
Henry N. Coito, 91, Peabody Police Sergeant, Ret., husband of Arminda “Minda” (Saraiva) Coito, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Kaplan family Hospice House with his loving and caring family at his side. Henry was born in Peabody on January 20, 1925 son of Thomas and Lucy (Daniel) Coito. Raised and educated in Peabody, he graduated from Peabody High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After his honorable discharge from the service he served in the Naval and Army Reserve. In his younger days Henry worked in the local Peabody leather factories. In 1950, he was appointed to the Peabody Police Department where he began his career in law enforcement retiring in 1978 as a Sergeant. While with the Department, he pursued his education at Salem State College in preparation for his Sergeant’s exam. He was a member of the Peabody Police Relief Association, always made sure that the grounds around his home were in pristine condition, and also enjoyed gardening and traveling. Henry was proud of his service to the country during WWII and “on Sunday morning you could find him with his fellow war veterans at the Portuguese American War Veteran Post #1 in Peabody”. In addition to his wife with whom he shared 67 years of marriage, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Linda R. and Robert M. Lupi of Lynn, and Henry T. and Linda J. Coito of Vineyard Haven; his grandchildren and their spouses, Hilary and Raymond Andolfo, Steven and Lisa Coito, Jennifer Coito and Rebecca and Brian Parker, and his cherished great-grandchildren, Sean, Coito, Emily Coito, Raymond Andolfo, Emerson Parker and Cullen Parker; 2 sisters, Antonia Saraiva and Dinlinda “Linda” Thornton, and many nieces and nephews.. He was also predeceased by his siblings Anthony Coito, and Maria Szczepucha His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, November 21, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held from the funeral home at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22nd followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in Henry’s name to the Portuguese American War Veteran Post #1, 103 Tremont St., Peabody< MA 01960. Entombment will be at held at the Holy Cross Mausoleum, Malden.
