Obituary of Sylvester J. Bernasky, Jr.

Sylvester J. “Bernie” Bernasky, 83, beloved husband of the late E. Ruth (Hill) Bernasky, passed away on Monday, November 21st at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, surrounded by his family. Born in Braddock, Pennsylvania, Bernie grew up in Mckeesport, Pennsylvania and was educated there. He was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Army. Bernie began his working career for S.S. Kresge Corporation, which brought him to Peabody. He settled here with his wife and raised their children. Bernie enjoyed being in his garden, reading books and baking the best apple pies. He was also an avid Patriots fan and was able to see them win on Sunday. He was a loving husband and father and a doting grandfather. He is survived by his five children: Leonard Bernasky of Newark, Delaware, Edward Bernasky and his wife Doreen of Stockton, New Jersey, Robert Bernasky of Peabody, Lisa Ryan and her husband Richard of Topsfield and Lynne Bernasky of Placerville, California; and four grandchildren: Paige, Jill and Matthew Ryan and Ryan Bernasky. He is predeceased by his brother Leonard Bernasky. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell Street, Peabody on Saturday at 10:30 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody on Friday from 4 to 7 P.M.
