Obituary of George Romano
George Romano, 91, of Peabody and formerly of Everett, died Monday evening at his home surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness. He was the devoted and loving husband of Angelina (D’Ambrosio) Romano.
Born in Everett, he was the son of the late Luigi and Olimpia Romano. He was raised and educated in Everett and was a graduate of Everett Trade High School. He has lived in Peabody for the past 50 years.
George was a veteran of WWII who served in the United States Army who saw action in Normandy and Central Europe. He was involved with the Liberation of France and later received a Letter of Commendation from the government of France.
Following his discharge from the military, George started his 40 year career as a Lithographer for the Metropolitan Greeting Card Company in Everett.
George was very active with the city of Everett, he was a former president of the little league and was involved in Everett politics and helped get George Keverian elected to the State House. He also played semi-pro baseball with Malden City Club as well.
George is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, George and Linda Romano of Peabody, his daughter, Maryann Nickerson and her friend Dave Lockard of Clackamas, OR, his sister-in-law, Edith Romano of Revere, his three grandchildren, Joseph Romano, Kelly and Richard Nickerson, his 5 great grandchildren, Jai Romano, Sloan, Trey, and Connor Nickerson, and Angelina Chiapuzio. He is also survived by his niece and nephew, Arthur Romano and Donna LeBlanc, both of Revere. He was predeceased by his brothers, Arthur and Joseph Romano, and his two grandchildren, Michael Romano and Tommy Nickerson.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Friday at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the Mass from 9:00 – 10:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St, Downtown. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St., Peabody. Expressions of sympathy can be made in his name to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place west, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.
