Obituary of Manuel H. Cunha

Manuel H. Cunha 72, of Peabody, husband of Maria (de Jesus Bettencourt) Cunha, passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 with his loving and caring family at his side. Manuel was born in Graciosa, Portugal on June 7, 1944 son of the late Faustino Luis da Cunha and Catarina (Henrique da Silva) Cunha. Raised and educated in Portugal he immigrated to the United States in 1969 making his home in Peabody. Manuel was employed for 15 years as a leather worker at the John Smidt Co. in Peabody until his retirement in 2006. He dedicated his entire life to his family and was so proud of his grandchildren. He was a parishioner at Our Lady of Fatima Church, a member of Our Lady of Help, Club Luis Camoes, P.O.S.T., Irmandade Acoreana do Divino Espirito Santo, and as hobbies loved to making wine, playing cards, playing the harmonica and gardening. In addition to his wife Maria, he is survived by his 3 sons and their spouses, George Cunha of CA, Hilario and Adelaide Cunha of Salem, and Steve and Tarsha Cunha of Peabody, his cherished grandchildren, Tanner, Dominic, Kennedy,, Isabella, Olivia, Christopher and Logan Cunha; a brother Duarte Cunha and a sister Iria Cunha of Portugal; a former daughter-in-law, Samantha Cunha of CA, many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews. His family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, November 27, 2016 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held from the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 28th followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody.
