Obituary of Maria Isabel (Pacheco) Mello

Maria Isabel (Pacheco) Mello, 81, passed away peacefully, November 18, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She was the beloved wife of the late George R. Mello. Maria was born in Danvers, on February 8, 1935, daughter of the late Joseph & Olive (Silva) Pacheco. She was raised there and went on to receive her formal education from Salem State College, receiving both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education. She went on to become a teacher at the Saltonstall and later the Bates school both in Salem. Maria enjoyed many hobbies, especially reading, which led to her becoming a published author. She also enjoyed painting, tending to her garden, loved having lunch gatherings with her friends, and was a member of the Ipswich River Audubon Society in Topsfield. Maria is survived by her cousins Ildete Lima of Graciosa, Azores, Maria Espinola of Canada, and many other cousins. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Edward Pacheco. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 27, from 4-6P.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Monday, November 28 at 8A.M at the funeral followed by a funeral Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave. Peabody. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial Contributions may be made in her name to the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, 87 Perkins Row, Topsfield, MA 01983.
