Obituary of Sr. Marguerite Gannon SNDdeN

Sr. Marguerite Gannon, SNDdeN (Mary Catherine Gannon) went home to God on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the St. Julie Residential Care Center at Ipswich. Sister was in her 99th year of life. She lived as a joyful member of the community of the Sisters of Notre Dame for 78 years. She was the devoted daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Flynn) Gannon and the loving sister of the late Thomas Gannon and Elizabeth (Burke) Gannon. Sister is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Sister Marguerite taught in Woburn, Boston, Marblehead, Cambridge, South Boston, and Tyngsboro. She served as school principal in St. Thomas, Peabody, St. Mary, Boston and NDA, Tyngsboro and as elementary school supervisor for the Notre Dame Community. In 1978 Sr. Marguerite responded to a need in Birmingham, Alabama and remained until 1985. During those years, a very poor school thrived under her leadership. Sister’s later years have been spent at Ipswich where she generously served in a variety of support roles. Visiting hours will be on Monday, November 28th at Our Lady Queen Chapel at 30 Jeffreys Neck Rd., Ipswich. The wake will be at 12:30 p.m.; the prayer service at 1:30 p.m. an the Mass of Christian Burial at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.
