Obituary of Charles "Charlie" Martin

Charles Martin 85, of Peabody, husband of the late Irene (Dion) Martin, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Charlie was born in Peabody on March 25, 1931 son of Manuel and Mary (Oliver) Martin. Raised and educated in Peabody, he was a lifelong resident of the city. In 1953 he enlisted into the U.S. Army and served in the motor pool in France and Germany as a SP2 being honorably discharged in 1955. Charlie was employed for 40 years at Sousa Oil Company in Peabody as a maintenance man for their truck fleet and properties until his retirement. As hobbies he enjoyed his miniature automobile collection, going to antique car shows, and keeping his property and the grounds around in immaculate condition. Charlie is survived by his brother, Americo Martin of Peabody; his niece, Sandra Pascarella and her husband Anthony of Salem, a nephew, Mark Martin of VT, a grand nephew, Andrew Pascarella and his fiancée Stephanie Ideman of Peabody; and 2 very close friends, Ernie Manos of Danvers and Deno Andrianos of Peabody. He was also predeceased by his companion Mary Serpa of Peabody. His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, November 28th from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29th. The requested that donations be made in Charlie’s name to the Portuguese American Veteran Post # 1 at 103 Tremont St., Peabody, MA 01960. The interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
