Obituary of Sulo A. Thompson

Sulo A. Thompson 94, of Peabody, husband of the late Dorothy L. “Dottie” (Mannix) Thompson, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers with his loving and caring family at his side. Sulo was born in Peabody on September 13, 1922 son of Andrew and Hannah (Pohju) Thompson. Raised and educated in Peabody he was a lifelong resident of the city. In 1944 he enlisted into the U.S. Army and served with the 80th Field Art. Bn. Battery C in the Southern Philippines, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was employed for 40 years as a leather worker at A.C. Lawrence Company until his retirement in 1976. Sulo was a father to dedicated his life to creating a home for his family, he was also so proud of his grandchildren’s accomplishments and cherished his 2 great grandchildren. He was a life member of the VFW Fidelity Post 1011 and the American Legion in Peabody, and as hobbies he enjoyed going on bus trips to Foxwoods, jigsaw puzzles, and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Sulo is survived by 2 sons and their wives, Kevin and Yvonne Thompson of North Attleboro, and Brian and Cheryl Thompson of Swampscott, his 7 grandchildren, Shawn Thompson of Nantucket, Wendy Chaves and her husband Matthew of Berkley, Stefanie, Kevin and Meghan Thompson all of North Attleboro, and Sarah and Cameron Thompson both of Swampscott; his cherished great grandchildren Savanna and Sadie Chaves, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was also predeceased by 3 brothers and 2 sisters. His family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, December 6th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His Celebration of Life service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, December 7th at 11:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Sulo’s name to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, C/O Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
