Obituary of Lawrence Jacobson

Lawrence Jacobson, 74, of Peabody, died unexpectedly Monday evening at Salem Hospital. He was the devoted husband of the late Colleen (Sawyer) Jacobson. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Augustus and Minnie (Lebstien) Jacobson. He was raised in Illinois, and in his youth lived in Chicago and later in Evanston for six years. He lived in Yonkers, New York for two years and has spent the last forty years living in Peabody. He served his country during the Korean War with the United States Marines as a First Lieutenant and was recipient of the Purple Heart Award. While in New York, he was a salesman for Star Brush Company in Yonkers and later when he moved to Peabody in the early 1960’ s started his own Sales Company, Pilgrim Sales, based in Reading for house wares & hardware, until his retirement 10 years ago. Mr. Jacobson was an active humanitarian who was a member of Peabody Rotary Club since 1970 serving as a past president and also served as District Governor of Rotary, district 793. He traveled world wide as ambassador for Polio Plus for Rotary Worldwide. From 1986 until 1992 he served as a Peabody Library Trustee, and in 1992 he was certified by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. From 1994 until 2000 he served with the Peabody Cable Commission, and he was a member of the USS Constitution Reenactment Detachment Division for the United States Marines. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandi and Tom Cullen of Peabody, and Robin and Rick Silverman of Ipswich; a sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and Irwin Greenblatt of Lake Worth Fla., six grandchildren, Jennifer, Thomas, and Jacqueline Cullen of Peabody and Jillian, Haley, and Carly Silverman of Ipswich. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
