Obituary of Claire A. "Mickey" (Buckley) O'Shea

Claire A. “Mickey” (Buckley) O’Shea PEABODY – Claire A. “Mickey” (Buckley) O’Shea, 86, beloved wife of the late James T. O’Shea, died peacefully on Friday afternoon December 2, 2016 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, while in the comforting presence of her family. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Winifred (Condon) Buckley. She was raised in Lynn, and graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1949. She lived in Peabody for over 50 years. Prior to her retirement, she worked in the office at Puritan Medical Center for 21 years. She was most passionatate about nurturing her family and being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and caregiver. Her generous spirit and kindness to all will be sorely missed. Mickey, as she was affectionately known, was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, enjoyed traveling throughout New England, on cruises and a special trip to Italy. She will be remembered for her baking skills, especially Christmas cookies and Whoopie Pies. She had a very close lifelong circle of friends who dubbed themselves “the Club”. She was very devoted in her faith. An active communicant at St. Ann’s Church in Peabody, she taught Religious Education, was a Brownie Troop Leader, and volunteer. She is survived by three daughters, Katherine and her husband Kevin Saunders of Stoneham, Joanne O’Shea of Salem, and Maureen and her husband John DiTaranto of Monroe, CT; seven grandchildren, Rachael & her husband Joshua Lee, Elizabeth & her husband Keith McLaughlin, Rebecca Saunders, Christopher, Anna, Rosemary, and John DiTaranto; one great-grandson Flynn David Lee; a sister Frances and her husband George Avadanian of Salisbury, and several nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her siblings Ruth and Roger Heaslip, Eleanor and Edward Geratowski, William and Marilyn Buckley, Charles and Joan Fox and her sister-in-law Anne O’Shea. Mickey’s family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Care One at Essex Park, Beverly, for their wonderful care and support provided to Mom. An extra special THANK YOU to the Hannah Unit! Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Saturday December 10, 2016 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4 – 7 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
