Obituary of James T. Mahan
James T. Mahan PEABODY – James T. Mahan, 84, beloved husband of Jean (Burkhardt) Mahan, died unexpectedly on Monday December 5, 2016 at the Mass General Hospital in Boston, following injuries sustained in a fall last week. Born in Charlestown, he was the son of the late Edward and Margaret (Pollard) Mahan. He grew up there, and graduated from Malden Catholic High School, Class of 1950. Mr. Mahan had 42 years of service at Boston Edison as a Repairman before retiring. James was athletic, enjoyed sports, and played football at Malden Catholic and continued playing semi-pro ball. He was a former life guard and was proud to teach his family swimming lessons. He kept his mind sharp doing crossword puzzles. He was passionate and devoted to his family and enjoyed living a quiet life at home. He is survived by his wife Jean (Burkhardt) Mahan of Peabody, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage; a son Thomas Mahan and his wife Carol of Peabody, two daughters Martha Mahan and her husband Forrest Sanborn of Laconia, NH and Paula Doherty and her husband John of Lynnfield; four grandchildren John Doherty and his wife Jessica, Michael Doherty, Sean Mahan and Kelly Mahan; five great-grandchildren, Bailey, Quinn, Claire, John and Ryan Doherty; a daughter-in-law Margaret Mahan of Wilmington, NC, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son James Mahan and brothers Joseph Mahan and Edward Mahan. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday December 9, 2016 from 9 – 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Memorial donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.
