Obituary of Roy M Ortins

Roy M Ortins, 51, of Salem and formerly of Peabody, died Thursday evening at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Doreen (Perry) Ortins with whom he shared over 6 years of marriage. Born in Salem, he was the son of Manuel G Ortins of Peabody and the late Theresa (Bettencourt) Ortins. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, class of 1982. He has lived in Salem for this past year. Roy was first employed as a repair and maintenance man at the former GTE Sylvania in Danvers for over 17 years and then he was employed as a new and used car salesman for various dealerships on the North Shore for over 8 years before his illness. Roy was a member of local Elks Club in Peabody for many years, and also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing golf and the guitar; his favorite endeavor though was telling stories to his grandchildren. Besides his wife and father, Roy is survived by his three sons, Luke Ortins of AZ, Ben Ortins of Salem, and Jonathan Silveira of Salem, his brother, Albert and his wife Daniella Ortins of Carmichael, CA, his niece and nephew, Samuel and Maggie Ortins of CA, and is also survived by his nine grandchildren, and his two step children, Derek, and Nicole Silveira, all of Salem. His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
