Obituary of Antonio S. "Babe" Bento
Antonio S. "Babe" Bento 90, of Peabody, loving husband of Olga M. (Navarra) Bento, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 11, 2016 with his loving and caring family at his side. Antonio was born in Utica, NY on July 28, 1926 son of Manuel and Julia (Espranca) Bento. Raised and educated in Peabody was an avid soccer player. He enlisted into the U. S. Navy on July 17, 1944 and served as a Radioman Third Class aboard the NTS Sampson and USS Auburn, and was honorably discharged on March 6, 1946. Antonio began his working career as a TV repairman with RCA and later owned and operated his own TV repair company until his retirement in 1986. He created a home for his family and the many friends whom considered him “Dad” and who enjoyed attending the family gatherings. For 30 years he and his wife Olga wintered in FL and also traveled extensively. He was life member of the Portuguese American War Veteran Post #1 and the VFW Fidelity Post 1011 in Peabody, and as hobbies he enjoyed golfing and bowling. In addition to his wife with whom he shared 67 years of marriage, he is survived by 2 daughters, Kim M. Bento-Lignos and Carol A. Bento of Peabody, a son and his wife, Bruce B. and Paula Bento of Fishkill, NY; his grandchildren and their spouses, Brian and Stacey Sullivan, Gino and Cassie Bento, and Antonio “Rocky” Bento. And his 6 great grandchildren; a brother, Leandro Bento of Peabody; 4 sisters-in-law, Louise Bento, Virginia Bettencourt both of Peabody, Malva Lindgren and her husband Robert, and Josephine Sullivan all of Beverly, many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was also predeceased by his grandson Sean Bento, his brother George Bento and his son-in-law Michael Lignos. His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, December 12, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday, December 13th at 9 a.m. followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Margin Street, Peabody. The family requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Antonio’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org . The interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
