Obituary of Italina (Santos) Marques

Italina (Santos) Marques, 84, of Peabody, passed away Friday evening after a long illness at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Jose Marques and mother of Tony Marques. Italina was born in Torres Vedras, Portugal on December 19, 1931, daughter of the late Manuel Pelagio and Maria da Conceicao Estorninho. She was raised and educated there prior to emigrating to the United States. Prior to her retirement, she worked as an Inspector for Altron Inc. in Wilmington for 20 years. She was also a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody. Whether it was cooking a variety of Portuguese foods, including her infamous pineapple cake, crocheting, enjoying her garden, or just being with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, she did everything with a sense of pride and selflessness, always putting others before herself. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Besides her husband and son, she is survived by a daughter-in-law, Amy Marques of Peabody; her grandchildren, Victoria and Gabriella Marques of Peabody; a brother; Manuel Pelagio of Portugal, and nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was predeceased by her sisters Irene and Herminia, her brother Carlos and grandson, Mateus Marques. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15, from 5- 8P.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Friday, December 16 at 8A.M in the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass at 9 A.M. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave. Peabody. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
