Obituary of Edward Paul Devereaux
Edward P. Devereaux, 86, of Peabody, died early Wednesday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House Danvers after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of 59 ½ years to Theresa M. (Dempsey) Devereaux.
He was born in Somerville MA on October 26, 1930, the son of the late Joseph and Bridget (Walsh) Devereaux and was raised there and has resided in Peabody for the past 52 years. Edward had been employed as a clerk with the US Postal Service at the Logan Airport in Boston for 33 years prior to his retirement in 1990. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the US Marine Corps for three years until his discharge in 1954.
He enjoyed making projects around the house and also taking field trips with his grandchildren. He and his wife loved to travel, taking cruises, going to Las Vegas and in the earlier years taking family vacations to Old orchard Beach, Maine. He was very devoted to his family and especially to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa, of Peabody, his children Paul and his wife Diana Devereaux and Teresa Devereaux and her companion James Holland Jr. all of Peabody, Edward Devereaux and his wife Kate of Wakefield, Joseph Devereaux and his companion Elizabeth (Dooley) and Debra Pevear and her husband Dana all of Manchester, NH and Cathy Mason of Tewksbury, MA; His siblings, John and his wife Sue Devereaux of Lunenburg, MA, and Barbara Kendall of Naples, FL., his cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler and Kristin Devereaux, Thomas, James and Samantha Pevear, Jackie Devereaux, Heather Martin and her husband Pat, Briana and Steven Devereaux, and Joseph and Jared Mason, a great grandchild Declan Peter Devereaux, a daughter-in-law, Fiona Maguire of No Andover and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Peter C. Devereaux who died in 2014.
A Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’s Church,. Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Salem.
