Obituary of Joseph P. Trueira
Joseph P. Trueira PEABODY – Joseph P. Trueira, 94, retired Deputy Chief of Police with the City of Peabody, died peacefully on Tuesday December 20, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Portugal, son of the late Manuel and Emilia (Andrade) Trueira. He lived there a short time then came to the United States, settling in Peabody where he lived for the last 86 years. After graduating Peabody High School, he worked in the leather industry before going into the United States Army during World War II. He was a Corporal with the 824th Bomb Squadron in the Army Air Corps, stationed in the European and African Theaters. Mr. Trueira joined the Peabody Police Department after the war, and served the City of Peabody for 30 years. He earned his way up the ranks from Patrolman up to Deputy Chief of Police, and retired in 1982. Joseph was a member of the Portuguese American War Veterans Post 1 of Peabody, the Mass Policeman’s Association, and the Peabody Police Relief Association. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, walking, flowers, and doing crossword puzzles. He is survived by his loving children, Frank Trueira and his wife Beverly of Barrington, NH, Sandra Grace and her husband Raymond of Nashua, NH, and Carol Freitas of Gurnee, IL; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, and also shared a close relationship with his five nephews. He was married to Marian Flynn and had three step-children. He was brother of the late Fernando “Fred” Trueira and Rose Rendeiro. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Thursday December 29, 2016 at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 7 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to the Peabody Police Benevolent Association, Peabody, MA.
