Obituary of Betty Chronis

Betty “Yia-Yia “ (Lekofridou) Chronis, 93, beloved wife of the late Dennis Chronis, died peacefully on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following an extended illness. Born in Greece, she was the daughter of the late Spiros and Anastasia (Gianopoulos) Lekofridou. She grew up there, and came to the United States in 1949 and settled in Salem. She lived in Peabody for nearly 60 years. Mrs. Chronis worked as a senior Stitcher at New England Sportswear in Peabody for 40 years before retiring. Betty enjoyed growing flowers and gardening. Many could appreciate her roses when driving by her home on Lowell St. She was a longtime member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, and was a member of the Daughters of Penelope. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by a son John Chronis and his wife Donna of Lynn; three grandchildren, John Chronis, Jr. and his wife Rebecca of Salem, Justin Diamond of Peabody, and Jayna Nunes and her husband Keven of Danvers, and several nieces, nephews and extended family from the Lowell area. Her passing was preceded by her loving sister, Harriet Lekofridou and also her loving sister-in-law Ann Polychronopoulos with whom she resided with her for nearly seventy years. Special thanks go out to the staff of Care Dimensions, especially to her hospice nurse of five months, Nancy Constantine and to Sandra Gendrolis as well as the team at the Kaplan Hospice House.. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 10:00 until 11:00AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. A Funeral Service will be held there at 11:00 AM with Rev. Christopher Foustoukas officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery Peabody.
