Obituary of Calvin T McCarthy, Jr
Calvin T. McCarthy, Jr, 78, of Danvers, died unexpectedly on Thursday morning at the Hunt Nursing Home in Danvers.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Calvin T and Mary (McNiff) McCarthy. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of St. John’s Prep, class of 1956. Upon his graduation, he attended Suffolk University. He has lived in Danvers for the past 60 years.
Calvin worked for his father’s company, McCarthy Brothers Construction Company and later was employed as an assistant buyer/salesman at the former Jordan Marsh Company in Boston for 25 years before retiring in 2000.
Calvin enjoyed traveling throughout the world and traveled everywhere except to the North Pole. He was a member of the Massachusetts Retail Association, and was very active with St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Peabody where he served on the financial board. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, CYO and volunteered with the town of Danvers during election time.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at the Hunt Nursing Home for their professionalism, their care and compassion during this difficult time. They are deeply grateful.
He is survived by his niece, Ellen and her husband James Kirk of VA and by many close and loving friends, including Paul Carlin, Debby Biggs, and Andrea and Michael Daley and their sons, Michael Jr and Douglas, Frank Doda and his daughter “Dolly” and Steve Carlson. He was predeceased by his brother, James McCarthy, and his dear friend Kenneth Larson.
His funeral will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2 – 5 pm. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Carmelite Monastery, 20 Mt. Carmel Rd, Danvers, MA 01923.
