Obituary of George S. Goolsby

George S. Goolsby 88, of Danvers, husband of the late Anne M. (Filfalt) Goolsby, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the Kaplan Family House in Danvers with his loving and caring family at his side. George was born in Salem on August 30, 1928 son of George S. Goolsby Sr. and Catherine F. (Fay) Goolsby. He was raised and educated in Salem and enlisted into the U. S. Navy on March 26, 1946 and served as a Seaman 1c, and was honorably discharged on February 16, 1950. Before making his home in Danvers 2 years ago, he resided in Peabody for 30 years. George began his working career at G.E. in Lynn and was later employed for 30 years as a toggler at the A.C. Lawrence Company until his retirement in 1993. George devoted his life to creating a home for his family and as hobbies he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, traveling and bird watching. He was also a life member of the American Legion Post 227 in Middleton and the Peabody Lodge of Elks #1409. George is survived by his children, Sheila M. Goolsby of Maidstone, VT, Timothy G. Goolsby of Danvers, and Douglas E. Goolsby and his wife Heather of Gloucester; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter; 2 sisters, Jane Ricci of Weymouth, and Dorothy Wilson and her husband James of PA, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was also predeceased by a son, Dennis M. Goolsby, a daughter, Cheryl Ann Thibodeau, a granddaughter, Patrice Goolsby and 2 sisters, Kathleen Bouchard and Mae Balboni. His Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, January 27th , at 11 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn S., Peabody.
